A guide from WoofWellCatsWater Setups
Your Cat Wants the Tap On. You Have Things to Do.
You're the official tap operator. The pay is terrible and the shifts start at 5 am. Let's talk about your options.
Congratulations. You've been promoted to Official Tap Operator.
The hours are terrible. Shifts start at 5 am. Your boss sits in the basin and yells until you turn the water on.
And the moment you leave, they stop drinking.
There's a way to resign from this job, and your cat will be happier for it.
Why your cat keeps calling you to the tap
Your cat isn't just being demanding. It has found water it likes: moving, fresh and fun.
Some cats have a strong taste for flowing water. A study on drinking bowls found that individual cats can show clear favourites.
The problem is that the tap only runs when you're there. The rest of the day, your cat is left with a still bowl it doesn't care for.

Give your cat a tap that never needs you
International Cat Care suggests a fountain for cats who like running water.
The WoofWell has a tap-style spout that pours a steady stream into the bowl, all day, at floor level. Your cat gets the flowing water it loves. You get to sleep in.
The short version
- Tap-demanding cats love moving water.
- The tap only runs when you're there to turn it on.
- Many cats have a strong preference for flowing water.
- A fountain gives them a tap that runs all day.
WoofWell vs. a water bowl
| Bowl | WoofWell | |
|---|---|---|
| The water | Sits still all day | Moves all day |
| Fur and crumbs | Float or sink in it | Caught by a filter pad |
| Your cat's interest | Easy to walk past | A stream they notice |
| Holds | A few hundred ml | 2.2 litres |
| Material | Often scratchy plastic | Stainless steel |
| Water level | Noticed when empty | Lit window shows it |

Quick answers before you decide
Will my cat actually use it? Most pets are curious about moving water straight away. Some take a few days. Put it somewhere quiet, keep the old bowl nearby for the first few days, and let your cat choose.
Is it noisy? No. The pump runs at about 30 dB. That's quieter than a whisper, so it won't keep anyone up at night.
Is it a pain to clean? Not at all. Rinse the steel bowl once a week and swap the filter pad every 3 to 4 weeks. There are no hidden corners for slime to hide in.
What does it plug into? It runs on a USB cable, so it works with any phone charger plug you already have.
Try it for yourself
